Coffee in Hawaii
Presently, the coffee is produced in large quantities from the islands
of Kauai, Molokai and Lanai. It is harvested, meeting qualifications by the State
of Hawaii, in a machine that cultivates harvests with compression and artificial
heat. Small heat rotations are done for one pound (450 grams). For over 150 years,
the famous Kona Coffee has been harvested for the rich taste and fragrance which
is rarely provided by other coffees.
Coffee Blend
Kona Coffee can only be legally recognized if there is 10% of Kona Coffee
within the blend. Most blends from Brazil, Indonesia, Africa and other Central American
regions, have beans with a lower quality, and produce a low quality blend . Kona Coffee serves high quality blends.
Green Kona Coffee beans (before roast) are almost six times the price of
other foreign coffee beans. The price of Kona Coffee, after it has been roasted,
is sold at a price one-third the the amount of most foreign roast coffees (in which
some contain Kona Coffee). A company that markets a "Kona Blend" in its roast can
obtain almost six times the level of profits as other coffee brands since it blends
a lower quality roast. The next time you look for quality Kona Coffee, make sure
it's 100% pure Kona Coffee.
